Description
The Component Factory takes lower resource types and works them into Component Chunks of various grades. The Component Factories range of outputs can be upgraded by attaching Component Dongle Blocks. In its vanilla state, it can produce Grade 1 Component Chunks.

The GSO Component Factory is a grade 3 manufacturing block manufactured by GSO. Like all GSO blocks, it can be crafted with a GSO Fabricator.

It has 16 attachment point(s) and takes up 12 cell(s).

Usage[ | ]

The GSO Component Factory must be anchored to function. It is practically the sole and best choice for anyone who has a lot of resource chunks, but are willing to make better value of them. From just monetary value making simple components with a few resource chunks can make a big difference by significantly increasing their sell value. But the best use of it is to craft blocks with the components that it can create (More information about components can be found on their own page).

Beware that canceling the fabrication process will simply cause all resources that it has already taken to be lost, similar to a fabricator. If placed on the same conveyor belt as other manufacturing blocks (specifically, fabricators), it will automatically work on creating components, based on the fabricator's request, and should the process be cancelled, it will automatically re-initiate the process (the player will still lose all resources that it has taken in, however), though this can be overridden if assigned to produce something else. It is also possible for the fabricator to be manually set on repeat, which useful for monetizing resources en masse (for example recycling unwanted wood and rubber into Rugged Fiblar).

The Component factory only has access to the one level of components. This can be expanded by adding Advanced/Complex/Exotic Dongle directly to the factory itself or stacked on existing dongles. When using conveyors, it is highly recommended for the player to build a path around it in order to allow more efficient movement of resources.

CPU production

This schematic shows how component with 3 input resource is produced. It takes 4 conveyor steps to produce 1 CPU. Horisontal arrows show moment from/to conveyor. Vertical in/out of factory. Therefore 4 factories will provide fully loaded CPU conveyor belt. Also, from this its obvious that factory is consuming 1/4 of lesser input resource and 1/2 of other resource per step.

Trivia[ | ]

  • This block is presented to the player as part of Craftier Business III.
  • It is considered the successor to the now-removed GSO Foundry as components are essentially identical to alloys save for other applications.
  • If a Fabricator does not require components when crafting a certain block, the signal light on the Component factory will still activate, if they are properly linked. This issue is also present on all refineries.
  • Due to a bug, sometimes resources may not be registered by the factory, causing it not to take the chunks it has requested.
    • A solution is to simply dump whatever resources that it is not taking into the conveyors, or pulling them off manually and using receivers to pick them up again. However, they are not always effective, so memorizing recipes and crafting low-tier individual components before combining them would be more effective.
  • Due to another bug, in a very big techs with 20+ Component Factories and many scrappers, production pattern gets slower, adding one step. So components with 3 input resources take 5 steps, with 2 - 3 steps, with 4 - 6 steps. It also produces noticeable lag spikes, due to amount of calculations game makes when starting out production. Overall, Component Factory is considered to be one of the buggiest blocks in the game.
